Phase II - Cleansing—A Weight Loss Advantage!
 
 

We have observed that when elimination of waste (from both urinary and alimentary tracts) is increased, weight loss is greatly facilitated and often people start looking younger.  Many people have found that adding cleansing programs into their weight loss regimen has not only given them an added boon to shedding extra pounds, but has also improved their health.  And, a very desirable side effect is that cleansing often contributes to a more youthful appearance—something many people don’t experience on most weight loss programs.

Certain herbs are especially helpful for weight loss and cleansing.  We have included them in a tea form.

The cleansing protocols for Phase II can be combined with the diet and menu plan of Phase I, with the addition of the foods added in Phase III.  What follows is a four-week cleansing program that gets results.  Week one focuses on colon cleansing, week two on liver cleansing, week three on gallbladder cleansing, and week four on the kidney flush.

I have found over many years of research that because of the thyroid dysfunction my colon, liver, and gall bladder needed to be cleansed. Week One: Colon Cleansing

One of the causes of being overweight and experiencing nagging health problems is the formation and build up of intestinal toxins. Once we truly understand that one of the greatest challenges our body faces is the removal of wastes and toxins, we will never again underestimate the importance of cleansing and proper elimination.

If you want to lose weight as efficiently as possible and reshape your body, it is absolutely crucial to cleanse the colon and create an environment for more rapid and successful weight loss results.

Colon cleansing is one of the most important steps—and usually the most overlooked—when people attempt to lose weight, reshape the body, flatten the abdomen, and improve digestion and elimination. The problem is that the body cannot properly digest and eliminate some of the foods and substances we ingest. These substances become waste material that can lodge or get stuck in the lining of the intestinal tract in the form of old, hard fecal matter and mucus. People can end up carrying around pounds of this matter that has built up over time in their colon.

Confounding the body’s need for the normal two to three bowel movements per day, this build up of material interferes with optimal nutrient absorption from our foods and supplements. Week Two: Liver Cleansing

The liver performs hundreds of jobs every day that are crucial to life and health. Some of its functions influence weight loss. They include:

  • Regulating carbohydrate metabolism, which controls blood sugar

  • Regulating protein metabolism, which produces proteins that transport substances such as fat and hormones

  • Burning fat for fuel, as well as making fat and storing it

  • Regulating hormonal metabolism, especially converting T4 to T3 (thyroid hormones)

  • Detoxifying internal toxins and environmental toxins

If you want to lose weight, this liver-cleansing week is a must! The liver holds the key to effective metabolism, weight control, and good health in general. The liver is the major fat-burning organ in the body. Cleansing your liver should cause your metabolism to improve immensely and you should start burning fat more efficiently.

When you eat the wrong foods, your liver makes fat and stores it. On this diet, your liver should give a big sigh of relief and go on about its job of regulating metabolism and burning fat. As you’ll see, it’s not starvation that works weight-loss wonders but what you eat that counts. When the liver is functioning well, weight loss occurs naturally and without excessive effort.

The liver stores toxins in fat cells. The more toxins it stores, the more the liver functions are compromised. The liver can become congested (constipated) just like the colon. When the liver is congested, excretion of bile is inhibited, and a person will be increasingly prone to constipation. As toxins linger in the gut too long, they will be absorbed back into the bloodstream. Toxins circulating in the system can cause water retention in certain areas of the body, especially the thighs, hips, and arms. We notice these unsightly collections as lumpy, orange-peel looking skin known as cellulite. A cleansed, well-functioning liver can greatly facilitate the loss of cellulite.

You may have a number of signs of liver dysfunction, even though all your blood tests of liver function appear normal. The tests used to determine liver function are not designed to show mild dysfunction, but rather liver damage. Symptoms of dysfunction can include:

  • Poor digestion, bloating, gas, weight gain, and constipation

  • Irritable bowel syndrome

  • Coated tongue or bad breath in the morning

  • Mood changes, depression, “foggy” brain

  • Allergic conditions such as hay fever, hives, skin rashes, asthma

  • Headaches: migraines, tension headaches, hormonal headaches, cluster headaches

  • Fluid retention/high blood pressure

  • Hypoglycemia/blood sugar instability

  • Inability to tolerate fatty foods, nausea, abdominal pains

  • Fatigue, chronic fatigue syndrome

Week Three: Gallbladder Cleansing

The liver and the gallbladder are interconnected and work together. What affects one will affect the other—both positively and negatively. One of the primary routes of eliminating toxins is through the bile. Bile is made in the liver and concentrated in the gallbladder. It becomes a carrier substance by which many toxins are expelled from the body.

Weight gain can also be a sign of a congested gallbladder. Signals of gallbladder congestion include fatty food intolerances (trouble digesting fats), belching, bloating, headaches, and strong appetites. Intense pain in the abdomen that radiates to the upper back can be an indication of gallstones. Ultrasound provides a definitive diagnosis. Approximately twenty percent of the women and eight percent of the men over forty in the U.S. have been shown to have gallstones. More than 300,000 gallbladders are removed each year.

It is important to note that during weight loss, concentration of cholesterol in the bile actually increases, setting the stage for gallstones. Secretion of all bile components is reduced during weight loss, but secretion of bile acids decreases more than cholesterol. One function of bile acids is to keep cholesterol in solution. This set-up greatly increases the risk of gallstone formation or acceleration of stone growth. Once weight is stabilized, bile acid output returns to normal and the cholesterol production remains low. The overall effect is an improvement in bile solubility with weight loss. This is one reason we highly recommend a gallbladder cleanse while on a weight loss program. And we recommend following the general guidelines for gallstone prevention for anyone losing more than one pound per week.

It is especially important to eat good fats during an intense weight loss program. We recommend only extra virgin olive oil and Virgin Coconut oil. Coconut oil is a fat that is easy to digest due to its concentration of medium chain triglycerides, making it the a good dietary choice while cleansing.

Week Four: Kidney Cleansing

When we cleanse our body, it is as important to cleanse the kidneys as it is to cleanse all other organs of elimination. During cleansing, the kidneys must process more toxic substances than normal.
