Soy is bad for hypothyroidism if you have problems with goiter, such as Hashimoto's disease (which is the type of hypothyroid I have). If you will search goitrogen list online you will find out which foods to avoid. If you don't have problems with goiter, I don't think it's necessary to avoid foods naturally containing goitrogens.

I started using coconut oil for my thyroid as well, and now use it for hair, skin, deodorant, and as a topical ointment for wounds since it has natural anti-fungal, anti-bacterial, and anti-viral properties. In my opinion, coconut oil is fabulous!

Also, if you've been taking synthroid and to increase your dose at all, you should ask your dr. to switch you to Armour if a pharmacy near you will carry it. I switched to it in December (after 10 years of levothyroxine) and have noticed amazing results.

Hope this info helps!

Hi everyone,
First a little background info on me...I've been on synthroid for borderline hypothyroidism for about 7 years. At the time of diagnosis, my Dr told me that I was not actually clinically hypothyroid. However, the 25mg of synthroid corrected my symptoms (brain fog, low energy). I've been wanting to try a more natural approach so I recently bought coconut oil for that.

Now for my question. Is it true that soy is bad for those with hypothyroidism? I would like some information on this from a good source if any of you know of such. I've been taking new chapter whole food vitamins for a few months. They contain soy. Other than that, all throughout my life I've not consumed any thing which contain soy (to my knowledge).
