It doesn't qualify as a probiotic, but it is anti microbial. Which means it kills bad bacteria, like candida and others, and those bacteria would crowd out and kill the good bacteria if left to proliferate. So, using coconut oil definitely benefits the colonies of good bacteria in your body by removing the harmful ones.

I personally eat lots of yogurt and use naturally fermented saurkraut.

I wouldn't say that coconut oil qualifies as a probiotic. I too did a 3 month all natural cleanse and took with a probiotic. But I can't say enough good about coconut oil. I do not use vegetable oil anylonger - strictly vco. WOW and delicious.
To date I am following a candida diet which I've incorporated coconut oil. (I recently ordered coconut flakes hoping to have an alternative tasty treat that is truly good for me.) Keep in mind that when we cleanse internally we need to replace and assist the healthy 'critters' within our system. Replace them using probiotics then feed them with lots of vegetables and some fruit.
Consult your health care physician. If you don't get a direct answer there seek the alternative medical physician.
Here's to good health for you,
JoAnne

Does coconut oil qualify as a 'prebiotic' or'probiotic' for the body? Meaning, after one does a colon cleanse in order to rid the body of toxins, evidently we need to put back into the body necessary safegards to prevent re-infection. thanks, "healthy even at 53"
