I am a 52 year old female. Also got hernia, stomach ulcer and just been diagnosed as having an underactive thyroid. I am suffering a lot now with hot sweats - I have recently come off HRT which did keep them at bay. I am interested in the affects of soy as I would use a lot of this in cooking and also as an alternative to salt....... I do unfortunatley use processed foods ...... are you saying that most of these contain soy which could be adding to my hot flushes.

By: judy A quick note... I am 63 year-old female, live on a ranch and train horses... in other words, very active. I have a hiatal (sp?) hernia and usually follow a very good diet. However... there is the occasional pizza, night out or whatever and then there just don't seem to be enough antacids in a bottle to handle the problem (joke!) One night before going to bed, following a swiss steak and gravy dinner, I snacked on three tbsp of coconut flakes. No acid reflux and I slept like a baby. I repeated the experiment several times with 100% success. Now, my treat before bedtime is 3 T of coconut flakes and regardless of what I've had for dinner... no acid reflux. Also... I'm an endometrial cancer survivor and learned that there is enough soy in most processed foods to cause hot flashes, even without ovaries or a uterus. When all the info finally comes out about soy, there are going to be some very surprised people.
